IMO, since Russia has emerged as a petro-state, this means that energy independence for Europe and the US is critical. Remember, Russia has already played the energy supply card by cutting off natural gas supplies to Europe through Gazprom last year.

And now we have “dear leader”, Leni…er, I mean Putin, who has shown that he is most definitely running the country as the prime minister (which is the position he held under Yeltsin, before he was elected president).
